Professor Tsiri Agbenyega

Tsiri Agbenyega trained at the School of Medical Sciences (SMS), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) where he received a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) in 1982.

After working for five years at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, he did his graduate training in physiology at the University of Manchester (UK), from where he received a PhD in 1991.

He is currently a Professor in the Department of Physiology (SMS), a Principal Medical Officer at the Department of Child Health, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and the Provost of the College of Health Sciences, KNUST. He served as Dean of the School of Medical School from April 2002 to September 2008.

 

He has since 1993, been involved in malaria research and currently heads the malaria research unit in the Department of Child Health at KATH and the Malaria Research Centre at the Presbyterian Hospital, Agogo, Ghana.

 

He has collaborated with local and foreign partners in studies funded by NIH, Welcome Trust, World Health Organization and the Gates Foundation. He is currently a PI on the PATH-Malaria Vaccine Initiative/GlaxoSmithKline funded Phase III clinical trial of the candidate malaria vaccine, RTS,S, at the Agogo Presbyterian Hospital
