Oklebenor Awareness Project

Ensign Global College, in collaboration with the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Health Directorate and the LinkINg Up initiative, successfully implemented the Oklebenor Awareness Project from February 15th to April 28th, 2023. The project aimed to address weight management and promote sustainable healthy behaviors in the Ayermesu area and surrounding villages of the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

The project centered around the test implementation of a facilitator's guide developed through collaboration between health and agricultural officers in the Krobo area. The guide was designed to raise awareness about overweight and obesity among the target population and assess its effectiveness in improving knowledge and promoting healthier lifestyles.

Over the course of the project, approximately 120 individuals participated in five educational lessons. These lessons covered various key areas, including understanding overweight and obesity, body image and perceptions, consequences of overweight and obesity, embracing food variety with the 4-Star Diet, and incorporating physical activity. The aim was to empower participants with the practical tools for healthier living.

Drs. Sandra Boatemaa Kushitor and Millicent Ofori-Boateng led the initiative with support from Ms. Jane Barnes, Ms. Nana Yaa Bema Asiedu-Saforo, and Mr. Lucas Odoom Ocran.

The Oklebenor Awareness Project served as an integral part of the broader LinkINg Up initiative, which focuses on improving the livelihoods of women and agripreneurs in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

By addressing weight management and promoting healthy behaviors, the project aimed to contribute to the overall well-being and quality of life in the target communities.

Ensign Global College MPH candidate, Lucas Ocran assisted in the roll-out of the program and commented, “By equipping individuals with knowledge and tools for healthier living, we are confident that this initiative will contribute to the overall well-being and livelihoods of the community.”
