Ensign Global College dedicated its newest building, the Center for Leadership, Innovation, and Prosperity (CLIP), on Friday, November 17, 2023. The ceremony was officiated by Ensign Global College President, Professor Stephen Alder, with a dedication prayer offered by Dr. Stephen Manortey, Director of Academic Programs.
The CLIP building will house Health 2 Go, the Ghana branch of the University of Utah Center for Global Surgery, the newly forming Office of Modern Slavery and Liberation, the University of Utah partner office (supporting collaboration with the Master of Business Creation and Master of Healthcare Management), and Ensign Global College faculty members.
Alder emphasized, “It features new spaces for gathering and innovation labs for project work. We will host Health2Go programs, medical innovation initiatives, Center for Global Surgery programs, and an office dedicated to addressing slavery-related issues and supporting those affected. Our aim is to make Ensign Global a place where the world is positively impacted.”
Attendees at the dedication included members of the Ensign Global College Board of Governors, representatives from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Ghana Mission Office, donors Glen and Shelina Way, the Hackney Consultants design team, including building architect Paa Kwesi, electrical engineer Ato Roberts, and mechanical engineer Kwaku Ohene Menyah. Also present were Richard Ahadjie of the Rema Alma Construction Company, Professor Charlotte Croffie (Pro Vice Chancellor of Loughborough University, UK), community partners, and members of partner organizations.
The building project was initiated in 2019 with support from a United States Agency for International Development (USAID) American Schools and Hospitals Abroad (ASHA) program grant in collaboration with the University of Utah. A groundbreaking ceremony for the project took place in July 2019 and construction was completed in September 2023. Overcoming challenges posed by the global pandemic, the construction demonstrated Ensign Global College’s commitment to pioneering excellence in education and community development.
Dr. Lynette Gay, Founder and Board Chair of Ensign Global College, shared insights on the diverse programs within CLIP during the 8th Congregation Ceremony on Saturday, November 18, 2023. The occasion also saw the conferral of Master of Public Health degrees upon the latest graduating class. CLIP’s mission is to empower communities, propel sustainable growth, and contribute to a healthier, more prosperous Ghana and Africa. The CLIP building was made possible through grant funding in collaboration with USAID and the University of Utah, along with generous donations from Unitus Labs, Robert and Lynette Gay, Crystal Springs Foundation, Glen and Shelina Way, and anonymous donors.
An official grand opening of the building is scheduled for 2024.
