About Ensign & Ghana
What is the official language of Ghana?
English is the official language of Ghana, and all courses at Ensign Global University are taught in English. Many indigenous languages are also spoken throughout the country.
What should students know about Ghana?
Ghana is one of West Africa’s most stable democracies. Accra is the capital and largest city, with other major cities including Kumasi and Tamale. Ghana has a diverse population, many tribes, languages, religions, and a warm culture of hospitality.
The climate is tropical, with wet and dry seasons. Ghana is on Greenwich Mean Time, and sunrise and sunset occur at roughly the same time throughout the year.
Where is the Ensign Global campus located?
Ensign Global University is located in Kpong in the Eastern Region of Ghana, about 45 miles northeast of Accra. The campus sits along the banks of the Volta River and offers modern classrooms, high-speed internet, a pool, fitness center, dining hall, and a safe learning environment.
Is Ghana safe for foreign visitors?
Yes. Ghana is generally safe for foreign visitors. As with travel anywhere, students should exercise good judgment and appropriate caution. International students are encouraged to contact the university with questions about travel and safety.
What is the climate like, and what clothing should I pack?
Ghana has a tropical climate and is generally hot throughout the year. There are rainy and dry seasons. Classes are conducted in business casual attire. Students living on campus have access to local shops and markets in Kpong, as well as larger shopping malls in Accra.
What type of food is served on campus?
Ensign Global University provides breakfast, lunch, and dinner for students, faculty, and staff. Meals are often served buffet-style and include a variety of Ghanaian and international dishes.
Application & Admissions
Will I have an interview?
Yes. Applicants who meet the admissions requirements will be interviewed by the Admissions Committee before acceptance. Interviews are usually scheduled virtually and may require flexibility because of time zone differences.
What are the application deadlines?
For a September first-semester start, international applicants should complete their application by June 30. A June 1 priority deadline is required for scholarship consideration.
For a February second-semester start, international applicants should complete their application by October 31. An October 1 priority deadline is required for scholarship consideration.
What are the application requirements?
Applicants are required to have completed a bachelor’s degree, have a GPA above 3.0, and demonstrate strong quantitative skills. The GRE is not required.
Applicants must complete the online application and upload transcripts, a passport photo, resume or CV, and a statement of purpose.

Is the MPH program accredited?
Yes. The Master of Public Health program is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health and the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission. Graduates are positioned for public health employment opportunities around the world.
When is graduation?
Graduation ceremonies are held once a year, usually in mid-November.
How many credit hours is the MPH?
The Master of Public Health program is 45 credit hours, including the applied practice experience and thesis. Optional certifications are available in areas such as Anti-Human-Trafficking, Health and Safety, and Information Communication Technology.
Does the MPH program assist students with practicum placement?
Yes. Ensign faculty and advisors work with students individually to help tailor practicum experiences to their interests. Practicums may be conducted within Ghana, across Africa, or globally.
How long does it take to complete the MPH program?
Students complete two semesters of coursework and one semester of thesis work. Students beginning in September usually complete coursework by late May or early June and defend their thesis around late August or early September.
Students beginning in February usually complete coursework in December and complete their thesis the following year around late August or early September.

Transcripts are evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Students with questions about transfer credits should contact Ensign Global University directly and should plan to submit official transcripts with their MPH application.
How much does the Master of Public Health program cost?
Tuition rates are available for Ghanaian, ECOWAS, and international students. Scholarship funding is also available. Meal plans are available for students living on campus or commuting to campus.

What is included in student housing rooms?
Student rooms include a bed, desk, chair, wardrobe, private bath, linens, bedding, and towels.
Where is student housing?
Student housing is located steps away from classrooms, the library, computer lab, administrative offices, and dining hall, helping students fully immerse themselves in graduate studies.
Are meals included?
Yes. Meals are included in the housing and meal plan through the culinary services team. There are no cooking facilities in student housing, but meal requests can be made in advance.
How are the facilities at Ensign Global Campus?
Ensign has a modern campus with culinary services, high-speed internet, uninterrupted electrical power, a water filtration system, 24-hour security, classrooms, computer lab, library, auditorium, swimming pool, fitness center, basketball and tennis courts, and covered outdoor space.
Is the campus safe?
Yes. The campus is fully contained with a security gate and 24/7 campus security. Student and guest safety is a top priority.
Health
What if I get sick?
Ensign has an on-site clinic staffed by a full-time physician and nurse who can treat most minor conditions. The university team is also connected to clinics and hospitals in the region if additional care is required.
What travel vaccines and medications do I need?
Visitors to Ghana require a Yellow Fever vaccine at least 15 days before arrival. Yellow Fever vaccination cards are required for entry into Ghana. Depending on country of origin, some visitors may also require anti-malaria medication during their stay.
Travel
Can I travel throughout Africa during course breaks?
Yes. Students have a break from mid-December until the beginning of February and can use Ghana as a starting point to visit many African countries. International students may also return home during breaks.
Are there travel opportunities in Ghana?
Yes. Ghana offers many opportunities to experience city life, cultural sites, rural settings, and nature. Ensign’s team can help coordinate excursions and travel for an additional fee.
What transportation is available within Ghana?
Taxis are available, and on-campus hosts can help students arrange safe and reliable transportation.
How do I get from the airport to Ensign Global Campus?
On-campus hosts will pick students up at Kotoka International Airport and safely transport them to Ensign Global Campus.
How do I apply for a student visa in Ghana?
Ensign staff will provide step-by-step instructions to guide students through the visa process. Students should contact the university if they have questions.
What activities are available around campus?
The campus includes a swimming pool, tennis court, basketball court, outdoor volleyball area, fitness center, and small soccer pitch. Kpong is generally quiet, with local shops and markets. Excursions to Accra and other locations may also be planned for MPH students.

Should I bring a laptop to campus?
Yes. Students should bring the electronic devices they need for graduate studies and communication, including electrical adapters for their devices.
What electronics are needed for the MPH program?
Students should plan to bring a laptop, cell phone, and any preferred technology for graduate studies and communication. There is also a computer lab on campus.
