Nuworza Kugbey, PhD

Dr Nuworza Kugbey is an Adjunct Lecturer at Ensign Global University, Kpong. He is currently a Senior Lecturer and Head of Department (Environment and Public Health) at the University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD), Somanya. Dr. Kugbey has a background in Psychology and Public Health with a PhD in Psychology from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Dr. Kugbey’s research focuses on mental and physical health nexus (e.g. cancer, diabetes, HIV), maternal mental health, adolescent/youth mental health, health literacy and work addiction. He has expertise in both quantitative and qualitative research methodology and has published over 70 peer-reviewed articles in internationally recognized journals. He has also presented several papers at both national and international conferences in his research areas.

Dr. Kugbey was a 2019 Queen Elizabeth’s Advanced Scholars Fellow in Maternal and Child health Equity at Queen’s University, Ontario, Canada where he examined the prevalence and associated factors of prenatal mental health problems in the Volta Region of Ghana. He has received cancer research training in India organized the prestigious Tata Memorial Hospital.

Prior to joining UESD, Dr. Kugbey served as a Clinical Psychologist and Lecturer in the Department of Family and Community Health at the School of Public Health, University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), Ho, where he taught and supervised both undergraduate and graduate (MPH) students in his research areas. Dr. Kugbey was a practicing clinical psychologist at the University of Ghana Careers and Counselling Centre for over 2years before joining UHAS.
